Ashland residents dealing with pink tap water after plant malfunction
Residents in Ashland Borough, Schuylkill County, are experiencing pink tap water since early Wednesday morning due to a malfunction in the water treatment plant's potassium permanganate feed, which released an excessive amount of the chemical. This incident occurred after the borough had already issued a Boil Water Advisory due to a water main break. While no official 'Do Not Drink' order is in place, officials advise residents not to consume the tap water until it runs clear, and expect the issue to persist for a few days as the system is flushed. Update (Yahoo News, 10.10.2026, 14:05): The potassium permanganate overfeed has been resolved and the water system has been flushed. However, no end date for the advisory has been provided by the borough.
