Swimming Prohibited at Rommwiss Beach After Blue Algae Detected
On Thursday 10 September 2026, Luxembourg’s Water Management Agency reported that a proliferation of cyanobacteria, specifically Microcystis aeruginosa, has been detected at Rommwiss beach on the Upper Sûre Lake. Analyses carried out on 9 September 2026 revealed toxin concentrations exceeding the action threshold. Consequently, swimming is prohibited with immediate effect at Rommwiss beach due to health risks.
'Poor bacteriological quality' detectedBourscheid residents told to stop drinking tap water
The Municipality of Bourscheid has warned residents not to drink tap water directly or to boil it for two minutes after tests found "poor bacteriological quality" in the municipal network. The water does not meet current standards for human consumption, and the same precaution applies when using it for food preparation. Further analyses are being conducted to restore water quality, and residents will be informed upon confirmation of normal quality.
