Calgary water playground temporarily closed after 3 cases of E. coli reported
Alberta health inspectors are investigating three cases of E. coli linked to the water park facilities at Prairie Winds Park in northeast Calgary. Visitors to the park between July 25 and Aug. 4, 2026, may have been exposed. The city closed the water park on Aug. 7, 2026, for further testing and cleaning. Update (Alberta Health Services, 22.08.2026, 23:17): A new advisory has been issued for Lake Sundance due to a cyanobacterial bloom and/or toxins. Residents should not drink or cook with lake water or contact visible blooms, as boiling will not remove the toxins.
Canadian family drops PFAS lawsuit despite private well testing 20 times above safe limit
A Prince Edward Island family dropped their lawsuit against the provincial government over PFAS contamination in their private well. In January 2025, their well water was found to contain PFAS levels more than 20 times above Health Canada's safe limit. The lawsuit, alleging contamination from a provincially owned dumpsite, was later withdrawn due to financial concerns.
Scotch Creek water system hit with boil water notice
The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD), in conjunction with Interior Health, has issued a Boil Water Notice for the Scotch Creek water system in the North Shuswap. Effective Thursday, August 6, 2026, residents must boil all water for at least one minute before consumption or use bottled water.
