Yet another boil water notice for Tipperary
Uisce Éireann has issued a boil water notice for Newport town and surrounding areas in County Tipperary, including Birdhill, Ballina, Gortybrigane, Ballinahinch, and Killoscully. Approximately 8,000 customers are affected due to a deterioration in raw water quality impacting the treatment plant. Residents must boil all water for drinking, food preparation, and teeth brushing until further notice. Update (thurles.info, 15.09.2026, 20:15): The incident now affects over 47,000 people across County Tipperary, with additional areas including Cordangan, Kilcommon, Rearcross, Galtee Regional, Cashel, Thomastown, Carrick-on-Suir (Linguan), and Ardfinnan also under boil water notices. New causes include pump failures, burst mains, and delays in water source connections, leading to overnight restrictions in some communities. A workshop is scheduled for October 6th in Thurles to address the crisis.
Anger at safety monitoring failures at Dunshaughlin Water Treatment Plant
Safety alarms and automatic shutdowns at the Dunshaughlin water treatment plant were disabled from late January until an EPA audit in May 2026, leading to fears for public health. During this period, chlorine dosing of water supplies also stopped, and there were numerous incidents where levels of iron and discolouration exceeded recommended safety limits. The EPA has directed Uisce Éireann to submit a report on actions to address 12 recommendations, impacting over 8,500 people in the Dunshaughlin area.
Boil Water Notice for Thousands in Co Tipperary
Uisce Eireann has issued a boil water notice for approximately 4,800 households in Co Tipperary, including Cashel Town, Galtee View, Boytonrath, Mantlehill, Castlelake, Golden Road, Cluain Orga, Caiseal na Ri and surrounding areas. The notice, active since July 25, is due to high levels of turbidity at the Springmount Water Treatment Plant. Residents are advised to boil all water for drinking, food preparation, and hygiene purposes until further notice.
Boil Water Notice issued to protect customers in Rathangan’s Pomeroy Park
Uisce Éireann has issued a Boil Water Notice for residents of Rathangan’s Pomeroy Park (numbers 1-72 inclusive) following the detection of increased bacteria levels in the supply. Customers must boil their water for drinking, food preparation, and brushing teeth until further notice. The team is working to restore normal water quality as quickly as possible.
