Aluminium level detected in Limerick water supply was ‘seven times’ above limit
The HSE advised Irish Water to issue a ‘Do Not Drink’ notice to 40 homes on the Rosbrien Road in Limerick after aluminium levels were detected at seven times above the limit. Residents were unable to use the water for drinking.
Efforts continue to lift Boil Water Notice on the Ardfinnan Regional Water Supply
Uisce Éireann reports that a Boil Water Notice remains in place for approximately 11,500 customers on the Ardfinnan Regional Water Supply, served by the Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant in Co Tipperary, initially issued due to deteriorated raw water quality. Efforts continue to lift the notice with a major plant upgrade, requiring temporary production shutdowns and water pressure restrictions from 18 to 21 September for affected areas including Ardfinnan Village and surrounding communities. Customers must continue to boil water for consumption.
Boil Water Notice for Dunmore and Glenamaddy supplies
Uisce Éireann has issued a Boil Water Notice for over 3,000 customers supplied by the Dunmore-Glenamaddy Public Water Supply and the Glenamaddy Public Water Supply. The notice is due to operational issues at the Gortgarrow Water Treatment Plant. Customers are advised to boil water before drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth, making ice, and washing salads or other foods that are not cooked prior to consumption. Update (Waterford News & Star, 24.09.2026, 21:55): The affected Deelish area is located in West Waterford. This safety measure will remain in place until further notice. Update (Waterford City & County Council, 26.09.2026, 08:15): The notice for the Deelish Public Water Supply also affects surrounding areas in addition to the previously listed townlands. Update (Uisce Éireann, 27.09.2026, 07:40): A new Boil Water Notice affects parts of Carrick-on-Suir, including Coolnamuck, Carrigbeg, and Seskin. This measure is due to elevated turbidity impacting the treatment process at the Coolnamuck Water Treatment Plant. Update (4ie.ie, 29.09.2026, 08:35): The measure was introduced in consultation with the Health Service Executive (HSE). All-clear (Construction Ireland, 30.09.2026, 18:11): A Boil Water Notice for Oileán Ghabhla has been lifted following the successful repair of a damaged subsea pipeline. Update (Uisce Éireann, 01.10.2026, 22:10): A Do Not Consume notice has been issued for the Arvagh Public Water Supply in Co Cavan due to elevated Manganese concentrations. Boiling the contaminated tap water does not make it safe for consumption. An alternative boiled water supply is available at Sacred Heart Church in Arvagh. Update (Anglo Celt, 02.10.2026, 13:21): The elevated manganese levels were detected in water entering the treatment plant. Update (Cavan County Council, 02.10.2026, 17:31): The Do Not Consume notice for Arvagh became effective on October 2, 2026. The alternative water supply provided requires boiling before consumption. This action follows the completion of works and a series of satisfactory water tests. Yet another boil water notice for Tipperary
Uisce Éireann has issued a boil water notice for Newport town and surrounding areas in County Tipperary, including Birdhill, Ballina, Gortybrigane, Ballinahinch, and Killoscully. Approximately 8,000 customers are affected due to a deterioration in raw water quality impacting the treatment plant. Residents must boil all water for drinking, food preparation, and teeth brushing until further notice. Update (thurles.info, 15.09.2026, 20:15): The incident now affects over 47,000 people across County Tipperary, with additional areas including Cordangan, Kilcommon, Rearcross, Galtee Regional, Cashel, Thomastown, Carrick-on-Suir (Linguan), and Ardfinnan also under boil water notices. New causes include pump failures, burst mains, and delays in water source connections, leading to overnight restrictions in some communities. A workshop is scheduled for October 6th in Thurles to address the crisis. Anger at safety monitoring failures at Dunshaughlin Water Treatment Plant
Safety alarms and automatic shutdowns at the Dunshaughlin water treatment plant were disabled from late January until an EPA audit in May 2026, leading to fears for public health. During this period, chlorine dosing of water supplies also stopped, and there were numerous incidents where levels of iron and discolouration exceeded recommended safety limits. The EPA has directed Uisce Éireann to submit a report on actions to address 12 recommendations, impacting over 8,500 people in the Dunshaughlin area.
Boil Water Notice for Thousands in Co Tipperary
Uisce Eireann has issued a boil water notice for approximately 4,800 households in Co Tipperary, including Cashel Town, Galtee View, Boytonrath, Mantlehill, Castlelake, Golden Road, Cluain Orga, Caiseal na Ri and surrounding areas. The notice, active since July 25, is due to high levels of turbidity at the Springmount Water Treatment Plant. Residents are advised to boil all water for drinking, food preparation, and hygiene purposes until further notice.

All-clear (Uisce Éireann, 02.10.2026, 14:30): A Boil Water Notice was lifted for customers supplied by the Galtee Regional Water Supply Scheme, including Cashel, Ballyglass, and Lisnagaul, on 01 October 2026. This notice was originally issued on 31 July 2026 due to quality issues impacting disinfection processes caused by reduced raw water availability.
