Yet another boil water notice for Tipperary
Uisce Éireann has issued a boil water notice for Newport town and surrounding areas in County Tipperary, including Birdhill, Ballina, Gortybrigane, Ballinahinch, and Killoscully. Approximately 8,000 customers are affected due to a deterioration in raw water quality impacting the treatment plant. New causes include pump failures, burst mains, and delays in water source connections, leading to overnight restrictions in some communities. A workshop is scheduled for October 6th in Thurles to address the crisis.
Anger at safety monitoring failures at Dunshaughlin Water Treatment Plant
Safety alarms and automatic shutdowns at the Dunshaughlin water treatment plant were disabled from late January until an EPA audit in May 2026, leading to fears for public health. During this period, chlorine dosing of water supplies also stopped, and there were numerous incidents where levels of iron and discolouration exceeded recommended safety limits. The EPA has directed Uisce Éireann to submit a report on actions to address 12 recommendations, impacting over 8,500 people in the Dunshaughlin area.
Boil Water Notice for Thousands in Co Tipperary
